This project explores the evolution and future design applications of the American Typewriter font. Drawing inspiration from Cubism, it aims to redefine the classic typeface through three-dimensional forms, incorporating multimedia elements to highlight the dynamic and interactive potential of typography in contemporary design. The research delves into the font’s social and historical context, investigating how it can be expressed in various innovative ways.

In the presentation phase, the project translates the typeface into 3D sculptures, soundscapes, and motion graphics, combining multimedia installations and interactive design. The final outcomes demonstrate how the integration of sound, physical typography, and motion can elevate type design to a new level of multidimensional expression, offering significant potential for creative applications.

Description

The use of a closed, smooth sphere, as opposed to the earlier model resembling a golf ball typewriter, better illustrates the concepts of "Fossil" and "input" in the project. Feedback has suggested that incorporating embossed patterns on the model, allowing it to leave traces in the sand, would create an interactive experience where the audience can manipulate the object on their own. This approach offers a more meaningful engagement compared to the previous model, which was not functional within a real typewriter.

Description

The project incorporates 3D-printed designs to bring conceptual typography to life in a tangible form. By using 3D printing technology, each piece captures intricate details and textures, allowing the typography to interact with physical space and inviting viewers to engage with text as a sculptural experience.
